Description

Route 27 trudges through the western mountains of Maine in the Carrabassett River Valley forming a link between the United States and the neighboring province of Quebec, Canada. With numerous scenic stops along the way, the road sweeps through a series of small towns, offering a good chance to go shopping and antique hunting for old New England wares.

Originating in Kingsfield, Route 27 runs northward to Coburn Gore Town, just shy of the Canadian border.

The Appalachian Trail crosses the byway at its southern tip. With all the activities that the trail has to offer including hiking and biking, as well as the mountains and the Carrabassett River, there is ample opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors. From mountaineering and water sports to a slow trek on the trail, this route offers a heap of fun.

This park is reknowned for its large, private campsites, its trails, its beach and launching area as well as the access it provides to recreation.
