Description

The Penobscot River starts in central Maine in Millinocket and runs down through Bangor to its scenic coast line. One is surrounded by the serene forests of Maine full of pine trees, berries, and furry critters. Along the Penobscot there are great views of Mount Katahdin, Maine's highest peak, which is a great picture souvenir from your rafting adventures in Maine.

The Penobscot River has a fun range of difficulty in rapids running from class III to class IV for the first half of the trip. The second half then has class IV and class V rapids. The variation of chutes, drops, and holes will make any group scream, laugh, and have an awesome team memory! Some highlights of the rapids include the Exterminator, the very large Nesowdnehunk Falls, and the Cribworks. It takes one full day to get through all the river has to offer. Usually the guides will stop on a sandy beach for lunch at Ripogenus Gorge before tackling the largest rapid called Cribworks. Enjoy the fresh air, water, and fun on this fast float through the great north woods.

The ideal whitewater season for this river starts in mid-May and runs through October. For the discounted rates the best time to go is mid-May through mid-June and the last half of September. Because this river gets up to a class V, the minimum age requirement for trips is fourteen years old. There is no need for worries when you are with an experienced tour guide and the adrenaline rush is all fun and games. This river is great for any group or family's expectations of whitewater rafting!
