Soft sandy beach and a historic pier are the shoreside seducers at Old Orchard Beach where paddling sports and charter fishing fill long days, though be sure to venture inland long enough to sample succulent local lobster.
A National Historic Landmark,Old Fort Western, a site dating to 1754, no longer serves a military purpose. Instead, the focus these days at our nation's oldest surviving wooden fort is providing visitors with a glimpse of early American history in this region through historic interpreters in period costumes, traditional furnishings and other associated buildings. A range of educational and cultural programs are offered here throughout the year, consult the events calendar for more information.
