 Site Help

It is important to know that all of the travel and recreation information on our site is categorized both by "Destination" and by "Topic."

Say for instance, you wanted to find hiking information in Bangor. You can select "Bangor" from the Destination Navigation and then from the Bangor intro page select the topic "Hiking." Alternatively, you could go to the Activity Navigation page, select "Hiking", and then on the Hiking Search page input "Bangor." The same would hold true for lodging information, camping information, etc.

Regardless of what method you follow, you will end of with a list of hikes, hotels or campgrounds matching your criteria. At that point you can select a particular hike, hotel or campground and access complete information about it on a Detailed Information Page for that item.

The graphic below shows the site layout visually. As you see, from the Home Page, you can choose to (1) find information by destination through the Destination Guides or (2) explore a particular topic or activity through the Searchable Topic Guides. You can also take an intermediate step and peruse the regional and topical overviews of Maine, before digging down for more detailed information.

From the Destination Navigation page, select a destination of interest. From any of the Topical Navigation pages, choose a topic to search (e.g. hiking, lodging, etc)
You'll be taken to an intro page for that destination presenting you with a list of topics covered for that destination (e.g. lodging, biking, etc.) Select a topic. Specify search criteria to find exactly the information you desire. (e.g. Hotels in Bangor near Downtown)
You'll be taken to page covering that topic for that destination with a list of possiblities (e.g. hikes, hotels, etc.) Browse the lists of results to get idea of what is offered

Once you've browsed lists of possiblities for your topic of interest, you can select the name of any particular hike, hotel, etc to access that listing's Detailed Information Page. Here you'll find all the information you need for any particular hiking trail, hotel, scenic drive, restaurant, etc.

It is all very intuitive, and easier done than read about. So dig in...
